Diva’s Zentangle Challenge #161

Diva's Zentangle Challenge #161

Here is my tangle of Quandary. I did 2 variations of it and tried some Tripoli to see if that would help me with it. I kind of see Quandary as a flower and I would think that would help me draw it. This pattern doesn’t yet sit well with me. Thank you Diva for really presenting me with a challenge!

I tried out my Prismacolor markers on my lovely Zentangle tile paper and really did enjoy watching the paper drink in the color. I wasn’t so thrilled with my finished tangle and I do believe that a little color makes most anything better. It kind of looks like spring to me.

My own stencils

My own stencils

I made my own stencils for these pages. The one is a cutout of The Little Dancer by Degas. I love this silhouette. The butterflies are just a very simple cut out. I keep finding very fancy butterfly stamps and stencils and I do enjoy those, but I really wanted something simple. The feather stamp is a new one that I’m loving. I am so happy with the way this layout came together. So often I am increasingly grateful for my gratitude journal. It has enriched my life in so many ways, not the least of which is my growing confidence in my art skills.

This page did not come out at all how I had envisioned it. The quote was shared at the Day of Mindfulness I participated in as a followup to an MBSR program. The quote is by Albert Camus “In the depth of winter I finally learned that within me lay an invincible summer.” I had this image of a silhouette of me meditating with the quote inside. Well. I added too many details to the silhouette and the pattern tissue kept sticking to my fingers and ended up all bunched. The pen that I wrote with became blurry, but it does capture the idea that I had in my mind. Part of the beauty of art journaling is that each day is a new page.

I was preparing for a collage class using transparencies and I have really enjoyed experimenting with different kinds of transparent/translucent layers. These copies of the daffodil painting for my mom’s birthday card were made on different copiers and one was on a transparency and one was on the wrong side of a transparent label. I used the actual transparent label for my mom’s card and it turned out beautifully. I will definitely use this technique again in the future.

The blue sky page was such a clear spring day outlined with crisp bare tree branches. My husband and I went for a fabulous walk and he bought me this lovely forest stamp. Another satisfying page.

Fun with layers and transparencies. Lots of scones, friends, and coffee shops this week.

Tangled Shamrock

The last two weeks have been pretty intense. Yesterday I got a chance to work on the Diva’s Zentangle challenge #159 and here is what I came up with.

Breathe: Spring

Breathe: Spring

This week I have been exploring my Crayola watercolors. I have really enjoyed exploring them and I incorporated my Inktense and Crayola watercolor pencils, too. I painted the flowers as practice for a birthday card for my mom. The frugal crafter on youtube has some great videos for using all of these tools.

This is my son performing on piano, cello, and vocals at our local solo & ensemble contest. He is so talented and so many people volunteer their time and talents to make this a fabulous day.

journal0002

I have been playing with different transparent surfaces and I really like the windows from envelopes. The quote about love is an experiment in different watercolor tools. The greens/blues are Crayola watercolor pencils and the warm colors are Derwent Inktense.

Here is one of my beautiful cats. They are such a blessing when I’m not feeling well (and of course when I am!) I have started exploring kirigami and here are some early samples. And some days I just need visual quiet.

Zentangle challenge Charlie

I did my Zentangle challenge #157 right in my gratitude journal yesterday and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Check out the Diva atiamthedivaczt

I’m trying to play with my Crayola watercolors everyday this week to push myself a little with this medium. I’m quite happy how this came out. Part of the inspiration for this came from the book Zentangle Untangled, that I am adding to my reference and recommendations area. Today I did play with my watercolors, but then I really went to town with the Washi tape. My mantra for this year is Contentment, just as I am, I already have everything I need. So the question is, will I resist the lure of more Washi tape? Stay tuned…

I have been teaching a lot. Last Saturday was a collage workshop and here is my sample collage. The next page is from Monday’s Gratitude Workshop. We played with matte medium and photos. One of the participants got some Tombow pens and let us all play with them – one of the perks of the workshop!

My son and his friends did such a great job with this play. It is so serious and they really demonstrated some maturity with their performances. This miscellaneous page was part of the collage demonstration. The meatloaf picture is from a vintage magazine advertisement that one of the participants decided to use in her fabulous collage. I have another collage workshop on March 22 – we will incorporate photocopies of photographs on transparencies that we will then paint. So much fun and creativity – I am so blessed.
