I took over 300 photos and created a bunch of super fun art in the week I was gone. It will probably take me more than a week to sort through everything and share the highlights with you. The best part is that I’m now a Certified Zentangle Teacher. I will go into more detail about that, probably tomorrow. Until then I hope you enjoy these gorgeous trees that were at The Elms. It is one of the Newport, RI Mansions. I’m not sure which of these trees are Elms, but there were so many gorgeous trees at this place! These 2 were out front and were so tidy. I have a lot more pictures of the grounds and the inside of this place, so stay tuned!

I hope you have a beautiful day!  To see more trees check out Becca’s Sunday Trees post or Cee’s entry into the Sunday Trees challenge.

Next week I’m going to be out of town for the Certified Zentangle Teacher seminar and some New England explorations with my husband and I don’t think I will be posting. I hope you have a beautiful week!

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. It is hosted by Norm 2.0.

I hope you enjoy my Thursday Doors post from the Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. We drove past this church on the way to the park and I had to come get some door pictures. It is really a lovely old building.

These are photos from the shady side of the Cathedral. This is the side I approached the church on and it was a lovely introduction to the architecture. I loved the lines of the side door and its archways.

Then I came around to the front and the amount of detail blew me away. You may have noticed that I like fancy things. Especially when flowers are part of it and these cherry trees were the icing on this fancy scene.

Here are some close up shots of the 3 sets of front doors and a few of the front as a whole. It was such a beautiful day to be taking photographs!

The sunny side of the church had some more cherry trees and this lovely “basement” door. It was tucked away from street view, but I thought it was beautiful, too.

For more door posts check out Norm 2.0. I hope you have a beautiful day.

Diva's Challenge, Zentangles

The excitement is building for my Certified Zentangle Teacher Seminar next week! I did the Diva challenge again to get in the mood.

diva challenge 312

The challenge was to use a beverage stain as the string (the line that divides the different tangle patterns.) I used all number related tangle patterns in honor of my count down!

For more Zentangled goodness check out the Diva’s blog! I hope you have a beautiful day.

This morning I got up early and went to the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. I have so many flower and tree photos to share! I’m going to try to do one a day for the next few days.

I have been seeing these lovely blooms all over and didn’t know what they were until this morning. I think I want some of these rhododendrons for my yard, too. I love this little landscape at the arboretum.

Dots and text seem to be the theme of this weeks gratitude journal. The left page has my sketch of a weeping cherry tree and text from magazines of things I’m grateful for. I like having Swim and Feline adjacent, if only in my journal. I was introduced to the Langston Hughes poem on the right page by a new friend and it is perfect for this week.

In time of silver rain

The earth puts forth new life again,

Green grasses grow

And flowers lift their heads,

And over all the plain

The wonder spreads

Of Life,

Of Life,

Of life!

In time of silver rain

The butterflies lift silken wings

To catch a rainbow cry,

And trees put forth new leaves to sing

In joy beneath the sky

As down the roadway

Passing boys and girls

Go singing, too,

In time of silver rain When spring

And life

Are new.

church and blossoms

Here is a photo that seems just right for Easter Sunday. This is the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ as seen from Branch Brook Park. More pictures of this coming on Thursday!

There were some trees at the Cherry Blossom Festival with really gorgeous shapes that weren’t full of blooms, but I loved them nonetheless. I hope you do too. These are my entry into Becca’s Sunday Trees Challenge.

Just a few closeups from the Cherry Blossom Festival in Newark today. I took over 100 pictures and will be posting them over the course of the week, but tonight I’m worn out!

There are 18 varieties of cherry trees in this park. It was funny being there before 8am with a whole lot of other photographers! It made me feel almost professional! For some really professional flower photos check out Cee’s blog!

I hope you have a beautiful day. I certainly did!

cherry blossom close up

I hope you like cherry blossoms as much as I do. Turns out that New Jersey is the place to be in spring if you love cherry blossoms. This series of photos was taken at the park adjacent to our little local library. Tomorrow husband and I are going to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Newark and I am EXCITED!!!! But until then…

The photo of the tree and the sky is from where I sat and did a sketch that I will be putting into my art journal. I included a picture of the library that is the home for the window that provides such a lovely reflection of the trees. For more flower photographs check out Cee’s Blog!

I hope you have a beautiful day.

Mandala 39 Diva Challenge

The Diva’s challenge this week is  “Circle Square String Theory”  and the idea is “This week’s challenge is a string challenge where you are to use a Circle and a Square in some form for your string. ” I like to check in and see what the Diva’s challenge is from time to time and this one really grabbed my attention. She also used black gesso on her tile and I love how that looked so I did a variation of my own. At the end of this month I’m going to the Certified Zentangle Teacher training seminar in Providence, RI. I’m really excited about it and I got a kit with more Zentangle tiles to play with until I go. Check out lots of fabulous examples of Zentangled art at the Diva’s blog.
