One of the things I like about blogging is the inspiration that plays out in unexpected ways. Here is an art journal entry that I am very happy with about the beauty of fall and letting go.

It was going in a different direction when I came across Amy’s Seeing Differently post. That led me to Robin’s Fine Art blog where she came up with the Seeing Differently October challenge. Because I encountered this challenge on the penultimate day, I took my own interpretation. Instead of photographing 15 different ordinary things over the course of the month I photographed 4 leaves that I had picked up this morning on 15 different ordinary things. My 2 favorites are the cats and they really aren’t just ordinary, of course.

bo-and-leaves

I tried to use the same layout for all of the pictures, but Bonhomie was too interested for it to remain. Winston was more relaxed with the photo shoot.

And here are the leaves on a few tables, the piano, a chair, my meditation cushion and yoga mat, the bathroom floor and an orange towel, a black & white photocopy of the leaves and the leaves on top of that copy – cool shadow effect.

The final of my 15 ordinary objects was the dictionary page with the definition of Leaf on it and the 4 pretty leaves that I found on a walk with my husband this morning. I really love to see what pops out in the different photos and how the colors and textures work together. I hope something comes together for you in such an exciting way on Halloween!

draw a cardinal day 1

This papa Cardinal has joined me for meals over the years I have lived in this house I am preparing to leave. It seemed appropriate that he would be the first bird I drew for draw a bird day. I am so grateful for the beauty of my back yard and our breakfast nook where I can sit and always have a lovely view. To learn more about Draw a Bird Day check out Laura at Create Art Everyday!

A thank you card for my one of my friends who drives me around and has been such a great friend for so many years. I cut a few lupines from her garden and said I would paint her a picture of them.

mondrian and celtic mandala 001

I have so much to be grateful for. I am no longer driving due to migraines and vertigo and sometimes that is irritating. Most of the time, however, I’m finding I’m spending time with my friends in new and different ways. I have learned who likes to go grocery shopping where and found some bargains along the way. I have gone along while my friend’s daughter goes in to her remote school for tests and she and I have had some great one on one time. I have become great friends with a couple who met in New Jersey and who have been so helpful with this transition. These are only a few examples of the blessings that have come from asking for help. One of the big ones is that I have been able to model for my mother how to live without a car. She is really struggling with this transition and I’m glad to be able to be supportive in a very genuine way.

So, some gratitude journaling ala Mondrian and including my Celtic mandala. I’m going to be playing with books I’m thinking about getting rid of. To upcycle in art or donate? That is my question. I may have decided to retain an excessive number of books for art, but that may help free me from feeling like they are too precious. What are you grateful for today? Who has helped you this week? Who have you helped?

I missed Earth Day, but it is close to the 3 year anniversary of the move of my gratitude journals into altered books. I enjoyed looking at them again as I got them ready to put in boxes. They seem like an appropriate homage to Earth Day, even if it is a little late.

Dam Camp was so much dam fun! It was an unconference and I taught art journaling and mandala drawing and took classes in understanding landscape art in its historical context, Raspberry Pi, and Bullet Journaling. What a fun impromptu learning environment. An unconference is when a bunch of people get together and spend about half an hour throwing out ideas of something they would like to share and you throw those into a grid to schedule everything and you go with what you’ve got. Ta-Da!

It was at the art center so I knew where all the stuff was and I was ready to start a new book so here is a part of it! I started doing some bullet journaling stuff in it, but that isn’t much to look at just yet. It was great to set aside a morning to get back into art and something other than packing, moving, and doctors.

The Very Good News:  Part of my migraine pain is from occipital neurologia. I have had a series of diagnostic nerve blocks and they have helped tremendously!!! I’m scheduled to have a more permanent procedure early in May. I have gotten down to a 0 on the pain scale for my migraines! It hasn’t lasted for a day, yet, but I’m really optimistic about the procedure. I have more hope than I have had in years.

Some more good news: we have accepted an offer on our house and our offer has been accepted on a house in New Jersey. It sounds a lot more simple and straight forward than it has been and I’m hoping it will be smooth sailing to complete the process. I’m hoping this will give me a little time between packing bouts to do some more art journaling. I have also started a really spectacular mandala but my eyes are acting up again so its on hold. I hope you have a beautiful day!

freehand mandala 001

It seems fitting that I got to the epilogue of the altered book I have been working on for the last 15 months on the day I found out we will be moving to New Jersey in the next month (or so).

In February I was trying post everyday, or almost every day as a way of managing my stress and it was very helpful. However, I now have new followers and have raised the expectation of faithful followers and I may disappoint you. I am planning to take the next month or so off from blogging. I will probably continue to journal and I may sporadically blog, as it can be a good stress release for me. But life is getting very interesting.

These pages include memorabilia from much of my life and a new freehand mandala.

garden of circles 001

So here is what I did with a bunch of those circles I painted the other day. I had fun going over them with spirograph, a mandala stamp, and a variety of freehand flower and organic shapes. I find I prefer the darker lines against the vibrant colors. My favorites so far are the doodled flowers and the spirograph. I really had fun with this whole layout. The Journal 52 prompt for this week is to explore something you love and I really love this circle technique! Have a beautiful day! I’m going to call this my flower of the day (or week) post, too! “The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under it’s roof.” Barbara Kingsolver

Right now I’m hoping that my husband gets the job he is interviewing for in New Jersey. And I’m also hoping that tomorrow will have a positive impact on my health. I pick up my CPAP machine and have Botox injections for my migraines. I know the injections help. I hope that I am also able to get a good night sleep and maybe get my energy back. In the meantime I hope to make my life and the lives of others more peaceful and beautiful. I also hope you enjoy this gratitude journal page spread that incorporates a lot of different artistic inspirations.

What do you hope for?

lots of circles

Loving this circular technique from Cat Hand on YouTube that I found on Laura’s blog Create Art Everyday. I’m having a LOT of fun with this technique. A word to the wise, you don’t need a lot of paint to do a lot of circles. I just went with it as long as the paint held out. This definitely had to be part of a layout in my gratitude art journal as well. I’m looking forward to exploring this technique in different media, too. Wait until you see what I’m doing with all of these! Have a beautiful day!
