I have been working on layers in my art journal and have been so busy with Zentangle® classes and art, but here is the page layout of the buildup to the CZT27 and planning our trip to Connecticut and Rhode Island.CZT in April

I included my first Zentangle® tile from the seminar and my dinner coupon for the first evening. The meals at the Providence Biltmore were fabulous. They were awesome in their skill in accommodating gluten free and special dietary needs. There were quite a few of us at the seminar and I got some good tips on that too! They made some gluten free brownies that everyone loved!

You can also see some random flowers I drew/painted on scraps of paper. They turned out pretty well. I’m still playing with cutting painted paper and using layers in my art. I feel like things are coming together, so to speak.

Zentangle practice in May

The background of all of these pages were from my Lenten painting marathon. They have been great fun to work on. I should probably get back to them so I can continue to have art journaling backgrounds ready! I played with more layers and tried out new pens and tangle patterns during and after the seminar on these pages. I’m also working on a mandala that I’m going to submit to a show out here and I’m a little nervous. This is a different market from Wisconsin! I’m learning about combining inks and acrylic paints and pens and gel pens with interesting, and sometimes smeary, results. The daffodils are from a napkin from a pot luck dinner I participated in at MUF (Morristown Unitarian Fellowship).

There is also a quote from The Buddha Walks Into a Bar by Lodro Rinzler.

“One way to think of this dignity is to equate when you are on the path with unraveling a ball of yarn. You have wound your sense of self so tightly that it’s hard to be anything other than you, a big ball of yarn. That’s just who you are, not string, or threads, but a ball of yarn.”

The thing about living with daily migraines is it has helped me see the threads in myself, not just the ball of yarn. Don’t know if that will mean anything to you, but it gets me through a lot of my days.

Oh! And I have Zentangle® classes scheduled to teach! And my professional art website is getting going! Check it all out here!

I hope you have a beautiful day.

interesting oil painting over collageYesterday I had a lovely day with my husband, mother, and niece at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The main galleries are closed for renovation, but the reason I wanted to go was to see the Van Gogh to Pollock Exhibit. It was fabulous! There was a painting by Camille Pissarro that I wasn’t expecting and it was a lovely surprise. I love Van Gogh, of course and it was not a work of his that I am familiar with. There was a wonderful self-portrait by Frieda Kahlo and an unusual selection by O’Keeffe. The painting that I have posted above really caught my eye because of the use of collage in the layers of paint. It is labeled as “Oil on canvas” but that does not do it justice. I cannot remember who painted it. There were so many wonderful things to see. I met this lovely new artist.

There was a wonderful painting by Mark Rothko and so many more. What a great way to spend a day. I am grateful for so much beauty and inspiration in the world and that this exhibit came to my corner of the world, And that I got to share it with family.

Have a beautiful day.

gratitude with flowers 001

I have been writing and arting in my gratitude journal, I have not been very good about posting about it however. Posting does make me a more faithful journalist, too. These pages started as a pallet for my collage and a place to clean off stencils used in the collage. I have a lot of scraps of watercolor paper left over from the cut pages I use to make coloring pages. I am starting to practice with new art supplies in little sketches that I will then write over. It takes the pressure off of making something finished looking when exploring new supplies and is providing me with lots of interesting backgrounds for journaling. Stay tuned for more!

The Journal 52 prompt for this week is Hiding Out and I feel like that is kind of what my journal pages have been doing. Actually, my interpretation of this prompt is about hiding the private thoughts and experiences in my published journal pages. Writing over images and some of my scribble/stream of consciousness handwriting provide me with ways to write about whatever I want without thinking about the publication part of it.

Here is a page full of quotes from the book I made for Jacob and with the city stencil from my most recent collage. Do you like it when I write out the quotes?

I have so much to be grateful for. How about you?

Have a beautiful day!

Here is the sketch I did for my Christmas Cactus painting. I have also had some time to do some random Zentangling. This is a new tangle pattern from the Zentangle newsletter.

Where was I?

While I have not been blogging about my gratitude journal I have had so much to be grateful for! I was with my son and his sister, and my husband. We were in one of the most beautiful places I know, Door County Wisconsin. The window photo was taken from my seat at the breakfast table. There is also the crew with pretty napkins, a pretty napkin, and a couple of photos of the beach.

One of the highlights of my life.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Day One in Door County we went to eat at Julie’s and Marq had his second meal of waffles. Then we took pictures in the big purple chair. Julie’s is very conveniently located just out side of Peninsula State Park. It was a little before the peak fall color, but still so beautiful. (Even the snake).

On Saturday evening we went to the drive in theater and saw Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 2. What a charming movie. So creative and fun. The second feature was not as great and it was pouring rain by that point, but that is part of the adventure of the drive in.

Back home I have been working on creative lettering and paper quilts. It is so much fun to have so many ways to express my gratitude!

Some days I am grateful for my cats, ice packs, and iPad. I am so glad that the next day I had another acupuncture treatment. I have become a huge fan of acupuncture! I feel like I’m getting my life back.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

I submitted this photo to one of my favorite blogs http://toemail.wordpress.com/ and also posted it in my self portrait part of my blog. It led to some new traffic here at Lunanista.

The fabulous lettering is from a mission flyer from the Presbyterian church I attend. We also went to our farm (CSA) to pick pumpkins and the next day to a wedding reception for 2 women who have finally been able to get married and assure the future care of their daughter.
