Yesterday was unseasonabley warm and we took advantage of the beautiful day to explore some more of our new home state. We totally fell in love with Island Beach State Park. It is a long, skinny spit of land that acts as a barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and the coast of New Jersey. It has some beautiful undeveloped land and is a nesting site for ospreys. We will definitely be heading back in the spring. There was evidence of Hurricane Sandy in the state park and in many of the communities along the coast. The sand dunes were moved substantially as you can see from the now covered pathway. The foxes on the island have mange and aren’t as beautiful as foxes can be, but it was lovely to see one in the wild. I was surprised to find holly on the beach. The juxtaposition of sand and holly really intrigued me.
Happy New Year!
