On Saturday my husband and I were able to go into New York City to play. We decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I will be posting photos from that trip over the next few days. They currently have an exhibit called Public Parks, Private gardens: Paris to Provence that includes some Van Gogh paintings I was not familiar with and this one is my new favorite.

Reproductions don’t do his works justice. The colors and textures of the original are breathtaking. If you get a chance to see one in a museum it is worth the price of admission.

We planted quite a few iris last fall that are from my husband’s father, who passed away in November. My father-in-law was an active member of the Iris society and collected a variety of unusual and beautiful iris. He shared them with us once we got our first house and his bulbs have decorated our homes ever since. This is the only one that has bloomed this year, but I look forward to seeing what blooms they have in store for us next year.

To see more beautiful blooms check out Cee’s flower of the day post.

white iris 002

Yesterday was full of thunderstorms and sunshine and I was able to get a photo of my white iris between storms before it was flattened by the rain.

Today I am back to serious packing. It is just over 2 weeks until we close on our hose in Wisconsin and are homeless. I won’t be posting much in the next month or so. I may get a photo here or there or do some quick sanity-maintenance art and/or blogging. I’ll be back! Until then find beauty where you can!

So things are progressing with the move. Our house is listed and people seem interested. No offers yet, but it is only the second day. 🙂

Not only will I miss my very dear friend Shannon, but I will miss her flowers, too. Her yard and gardens are a paradise just up the street. Here are one of her kinds of tiny iris. I really love these little guys. I wish I could have caught them with the snow from our brief blizzard of Saturday, but they are so happy as they are. What makes you happy about Spring? Blue Iris etc.

Blue Iris etc.

Here is my continuing fascination with representing flowers. I took some time to draw an iris and then I copied it onto watercolor paper. Then I had some fun with other paper. I was listening to Jack Kornfield’s book The Inner Art of Mediation. Yesterday I was reading Anne Lamott’s book Help, Thanks, Wow and I led a book group at my church on gratitude. I have a lot of enthusiasm for gratitude. It was a wonderful time.

I am currently listening to a presentation by Lea Waters. She reports on the benefits “25% of a person’s life satisfaction is predicted by gratitude.” When I tell people that my migraine has not gone away in more than 3 years they are astounded. Pain does not preclude happiness. Not to say that I am grateful for the migraine, mind you. Gratitude has made my life better and the evidence suggests that it might help you, too.

Yeah! I figured out how to get my pictures in bigger! I painted some strawberries the other day. I really believe that the composition and color theory exercises in the book Art Journal Freedom by Dina Wakley have improved my pages. My niece graduated from high school and we had a fabulous family gathering.
