inThe simple paintings are getting a little more complicated and require drying time between steps. I frequently get distracted during drying time and sometimes it takes a bit to get back to them. I am also working on a bunch of different things in the meantime. Here is an abstract painting layering circles of different opacity.
Here is a more 3 dimensional painting of a ball of yarn using contour strokes.
I may have forgotten some of the finishing touches on this one. Oops! But I wanted to get my Marsh Mandala in the mail.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

100 Mandalas, acrylic paintings, collage, Horicon, Jersey Street Music Festival, Mandala, mandala collage, painting, paper collage
I just finished an 8×8 canvas board collage for the Horicon Phoenix Program fundraiser for the Jersey Street Music Festival in Horicon, WI. Mike and I greatly enjoyed the free concerts that this organization sponsored during our summers in Wisconsin. Here is the process and the product I donated, mandala 39/100.
Here is a combination of collaged papers and different paint techniques I used to cover the canvas.
I have found that I enjoy drawing mandalas on tissue paper over a basic mandala template for mandala collages. I added some paint on top and here is the finished product.
I sent it out in the mail today. If you would like to purchase this piece it will cost $50, or you can purchase a random piece for $25. The proceeds of the sale support the Jersey Street Music Festival and help a small town stay vibrant. I have to say that I love supporting the Jersey Street Festival from New Jersey. What a funny coincidence.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

Thanks to Cee for the photo that inspired this painting! Here are links to both of her photography sites. She has provided a lot of inspiration for my art and encouraged my photography as well. Thanks Cee!
Her photo of Mount Hood reminded me of the simple landscapes I have been painting in my Simple Paintings series. The others are all from this book.
I am so happy to be able to apply what I have learned from this book into my painting so easily!
I hope you have a beautiful day.

Yesterday in church our pastor was talking about the practice of giving up something for lent. She also talked about increasing an activity or behavior instead. I’m going to focus on using what I already have for art supplies and really focusing on painting. Well, I have been playing around with this book about learning how to paint with acrylics through the creation of 50 small paintings. I have done one and they make lovely backgrounds for mandalas.
So my plan is to make a painting a day as much as possible and work on the mandalas on the days I can’t paint. We are going to be heading back to WI in a few weeks and I wanted something more portable for while we are traveling.
Here is the book and the 2 paintings I did yesterday.
As you can see I learned that using masking tape on the dictionary pages doesn’t work very well so I’m just trying to keep tidy edges. One thing that is interesting about the picture of fields and trees is that the darker field is on the word “field” on the dictionary page. That was totally coincidence, but once I noticed it I tried to keep that part translucent. Something I learned in the making of the painting is that you can combine Mars Black with Cadmium Yellow Light to make the darkest green of the trees. The Moonlight Delight painting is for sale in my Etsy store. More paintings will be available by the end of Lent.

I drew/painted this as a gift for my son who is a composer to be used as cover art for an EP if he and his collaborator wanted. It wasn’t what they were looking for, but I thought it turned out interesting, so here it is!
Also, my husband told me that I need to upgrade my WordPress site because of increased security threats. Well, I started looking into it and discovered that I need to back up my site first and all the documentation to do that has me lost. If any of you can use plain language to help me with this I would appreciate it. Have you backed up your sites? In any case, I hope you have a beautiful day.

inA lot of layers in this painting. The visible part is a “whitewash” I put over the dark layers of betrayal. On top of that I put new patterns that are the result of betrayal and a lot of circles because I love circles and to indicate the cycles of life including trust and betrayal. The large purple circle in the center represents being vulnerable and the outer circles embrace that vulnerability in the hopes of developing compassion for self and others.
Today I’m starting a very different kind of painting class that will be focused on techniques. I’m excited! I also have a bunch of gratitude journal entries to post. I hope to get caught up this week.

For my process painting class, session 2 the assignment was to paint “Adventure.” This depicts the adventure of my marriage. I’m not sure if you can see the 2 trees in the foreground clearly. It was difficult to photograph this without glare (tips welcome!). Anyway, the 2 trees represent the 2 of us and the painting is a transition from the red rocks of Utah, where we were married, through the green of Wisconsin to the forested land of New Jersey. The path for the adventure isn’t smooth – that is part of what makes it interesting and an adventure.
I hope you have a beautiful day!
