There are too many beauties to just post one a day so here is a selection of pink roses from the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. I love the variation in color and structure of the roses. The fragrance differed from rose to rose and the overall fragrance was so lovely.

lavendar rose

Purple and green are my favorite color combination and when combined in a flower it is perfection to me. We had some lavender roses that we planted at our house in Utah. I loved them and this one from the New York Botanical Garden is such a lovely specimen. For more flower photographs check out Cee’s Flower of the Day. I hope you have a beautiful day.

I cannot resist Cee’s Challenges. When I saw the Weathered Wood topic for this week I immediately thought of this photo I took in Door County Wisconsin. We have been going there most summers with different combinations of family and friends for quite a few years.  A few years ago we went in the fall for the first time and it was lovely. Door County is a peninsula (the “thumb” of Wisconsin) that divides Lake Michigan from Green Bay (it is an actual body of water, not just a football team.) The peninsula is covered with orchards, forests, farms, beaches and bluffs. It is one of my favorite places in the Midwest and now that our children are (almost) grown I hope to spend some time there with my hubby in the falls to come. There are also fabulous art class opportunities and I’m keeping my eyes open for some plein air painting ones that might work. In the meantime, it is so easy to take lots of beautiful photographs of wood in many weathered states.

When I got to my folder of these photos I came across quite a few other weathered wood photos of all kinds! I hope you like them. I know I certainly like taking them. Speaking of which, I wonder why I took this photo of the the tree’s roots. They certainly are weathered and interesting, but I’m not sure what I had in mind!

Compost and roses

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Today was such a great art day. I had the lovely roses from my friend from the Dharma lesson on Tuesday and lots of time and materials. I so enjoy having the time to play with different media to see which one works best for my gratitude metaphor for any given day. Today I had such an abundance of materials that represent so many things I am grateful for in my life. I particularly enjoy the juxtaposition of the newsletter from my CSA vegetable share, called the Com Post, and the laser printed copy of the roses. In all of our lives the compost makes the flowers bloom. Sometimes I really have to look to see the flower through the decomposing pile of corn silk, eggshells, and coffee grounds. Yesterday I could only see anxiety for much of the day. Today was full of literal and metaphorical flowers.

Hullabaloo

These last two days felt almost like a weekend, yet now the weekend is here again. For that I am grateful. While my graphic for the Fourth of July was busy, my body was not. For that I am grateful. Yesterday was another relatively quiet day of art and freezing greens. Guess what, I’m grateful for that too. My son has taken over the care and harvesting of my roses and that is lovely on so many levels. (And, as you may have guessed, I’m grateful.) I enjoy quirky juxtaposition that is represented in both the graphics and text of this post. I hope you are pleased and grateful too. I wish you joy.
