The tulips in this top picture look almost like peonies and this is one of the last tulip beds to finish blooming this spring.

This spring I took short walks most days in the Arboretum and followed the progress of the tulips as I progressed in healing after surgery. It has taken me a while to post these (or much of anything).

I’m including selections from different flower beds. The Frelinghuysen Arboretum was participating in a special year for tulips and they had extra beds and a lovely variety. I’m including photos from different days and different times of day.

The walkway with the crazy tulips in the very first picture in this post and a close up of yet another purple and orange flowerbed. I love combinations of secondary colors and these beds of tulips really made my day on so many days! For more flower photos check out Cee’s Flower of the Day.

I hope you have some beauty in your day.

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. It is hosted by Norm 2.0.

The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is very near my house and as I’m recovery from surgery it is a delightful place to go for short or medium length, easy walks. The fact that they are in the middle of a tulip festival really helps keeping me excited to come back. Stay tuned for a collection of photos on the progress of the tulips.

The arboretum also quite a few fairy doors right now. Here are 2 that I found.

Cee Neuner has lots of fun challenges and also does a flower a day post. I really love flowers (perhaps you already knew that.) Her fun challenge for this week is to post photos of individual flowers. I played around with that off and on all day yesterday and this was one of my final photos. Here was the other.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the process. The cats helped, too.

I know what you are thinking. Is she saying that flowers are mundane or miraculous? Actually I feel like they can be both. We pass by so many flowers and don’t take note of them and they can become mundane in our busy lives. (Well, your busy lives. I spend a lot of time laying down quietly so I usually find flowers miraculous.) To see more miraculous flowers check out Cee’s Flower of the Day post.

That brings me to the truly miraculous in my life. Yesterday I had a greater and lesser occipital nerve radio frequency ablation done to the nerves on the left side of my head. Can I just say that the pain level of the recovery is actually better than 95% of my days over the last 5 years!!! The process was super fast and not a big deal – it sounds a lot worse than it is! I’m excited to schedule the right side and get on with my life!

This week what mundane and miraculous things are you grateful for in your life? Make a blog post about it and post a link in the comments. Practicing gratitude increases  your happiness and is good for your health so join in on the fun!

Family and Friends

Friday I met some new friends of mine at a local coffee shop and we walked from there to the house of one of them. It has been so lovely getting to know them. Spring is coming and it is wonderful to be able to get outside and walk. The air was still a bit nippy, but the company and coffee kept me warm. My nephew and his wife and son came over for dinner on Saturday. My mom joined us. It was a lovely day with simple food and flowers and good company. My son was so great playing with the little guy so the grown-ups could talk. Here is a sketch I did from a photo of the little guy. He was playing piano but here it looks like he is smelling the flowers.

spring yoga

“Spring” is a sketch I did for a card I made for one of my new friends. She is in my yoga class and we have taken to going out for coffee after class. This was an award for her for cleaning up after her 3 dogs now that all the winter snow has exposed an entire winter’s worth of poo. If you look closely you can see that the letter R has a foot stepping in something. This amused my son and I for hours.

You may have noticed that I am really grateful for coffee. It is more that I am grateful for the social aspect and the sense of community. However, I really do enjoy a good cup of coffee. My husband is also ubiquitous in my journal. I am so fortunate to have him in my life.

robin and workshop

My robin is a little off, but overall I feel pretty good with my increasing sketching. I am also feeling more comfortable with using the Inktense pencils. I’m not entirely happy with the orange of his breast, but I feel like I’m getting better at undertones. I guess I will need to keep practicing! Yeah!
