This collection of journal pages is inspired by some of the artists from 1,000 Artist Journal Pages http://www.dblogala.com/1000-artist-journal-pages/ and Joanne Fink of http://www.sakuraofamerica.com/zenspirations.

This is my first try at a dangle design and I am really happy with how it turned out. It isn’t very original at this point – but the process was fun and gave me lots of ideas.

These designs are inspired by other entries in the book and/or from information on Cloth Paper Scissors. I am loving all the inspirational materials from books and the internet. Art is so different from when I was learning to draw and paint in the early ’80s. It is so much fun! I hope it is as fun to look at as it was to create.

Opening my heart

I have been listening to Pema Chodrun’s book about compassion and she inspired this Zentagle and multi-page layout. I have been playing with copies of it so you will probably see it again in a new iteration. We are coming up to my favorite week of the year. I love Thanksgiving and we celebrate Game Day the Friday after. We invite friends and family to come and play, eat, and talk all day. My heart is opening up wider and wider. Come on in.

Here is the open heart layout. I also really like how the page with all the circles turned out. This is the third picture book I have used in a row and I’m ready for the texture and blocks of text of a chapter book. How could I resist a book about Thanksgiving for my November gratitude journal?

My yoga teacher was talking about balancing effort and ease in a pose and that really resonated with me. My life is about pacing myself, but if I can look at it as a process of balancing effort and ease it sounds much more graceful.

The long awaited movie premier came at the end of a busy day. I was pretty worn out, but it was worth it! I also had a lovely day yesterday that included me and my mom, Mommy and Me class, lunch at a new (to us) restaurant, and meditation.

Studio setup

I have been working on getting my studio set up. One of the things that has helped me get going is thinking “Why not do it now?” when I’m not making great use of my time and energy. This page was some of the word work that got me to that realization. I hope to have photos of my lovely studio before the new year.
I have also been doing a lot of yoga and you will see images that reflect this. Yoga has been helping me have more energy and just overall physical wellness.

 

I think I am making progress in my self-portraits, too. I am working on one that is more 3 dimensional and I’m excited in how it is coming together. I never thought I would become excited about doing self-portraits, but I really am.

While this is an entry in my gratitude journal, I consider it more of a self-portrait. The surrounding imagery consists of metaphors of things in my day I was grateful for and I hope you enjoy.

Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.
This quote is on the inside cover of my fourth gratitude journal. I scanned this image instead of photographing it and I couldn’t get the whole thing on my scanner.
The drawing is from a photo of my yoga teacher that I took and traced around and then surrounded with Zentangle Inspired Art. I’m going to play around with copies of it and different coloring techniques.
