What will happen today

I have been thinking about using this photograph from my friend Dan for quite a while. One day while I was meditating I realized the photo make me think of wonder. I am so happy with the way it came together. The butterfly was actually my illustration for the next day, but I really enjoy the juxtaposition of these 2 pages.

This brings me to the end of my third altered art gratitude journal. These pages aren’t in any particular order. I hope you enjoy them.

Rainbow and other kinds of connection

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

I am reading the biography of Jim Henson by Brian Jay Jones and he was such a rock star. I have been watching videos as I go, too. Yesterday was the first Muppet Movie and the day before was Sesame Street. They both brought such vivid, happy, memories to mind and I have loved sharing this with my husband.

Also, I am teaching another Gratitude Workshop this Saturday and I’m playing with photos. I really like how this page came out.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

I don’t know if you can tell from the photo, but the texture of the left page is excellent. We participated in the Crop Walk and then had a wine and tapas gathering with friends. I used Mod Podge to attach one of the tissues I had used when painting and it turned out really fun. I separated the tissue into individual layers. The facing page provides a nice contrast, particularly with “Simplify” right there. The picture in the upper right corner is composed of an old clipping from probably The Ladies Home Journal that my Great Aunt Margaret collected. It is matted on a page from my dad’s hymnal. I think I will be using this combination as a metaphor for my mom.

This book has provided some interesting vision titles and images. I thought the Zentangle  was a nice complement to the color vision images.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

I spent some time after yoga class taking pictures of my yoga teacher. They turned out beautifully and I plan to use them in a variety of creative ways. Some of them we will talk about this coming Saturday in my Gratitude Workshop.

Marq really was amazing at the Fall Music Concert. He accompanied the Bel Canto choir on piano on one song and sang a solo on another. He wrapped up his performances by playing cello with the orchestra. I’m practicing my crazy quilt stitches.

Becoming

Here I am in my creative den. I suffer from chronic migraines and I spend a lot of time in my room in the dark. Today as things were feeling better I opened the curtains a little and took this self-portrait. You can see the zentangle that I designed for my tattoo. I call her sunshine in a nod to John Denver. “Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy.”
I really identify with butterflies and I try to think of my time of rest as my transformation into a butterfly. Some of my best creative ideas come to me while I heal. I believe I am becoming someone better.

*What colors can do

What colors can do

This phrase* is from a book about Dale Chihuly and the quote is on the green page. I need to figure out a better way of getting my images into wordpress. The colors and the details are not great. My scanner is too small to scan the open book. If you have any suggestion, please let me know.

Some friends and I went to a local art museum and I was so inspired by Chihuly’s work. I am thrilled that the more I surround my self with creativity the more inspiration I find.

*”So, on the train, I made all these colors. Of course, in six days I could only make a few thousand colors and that didn’t even approach all the situations possible. Until you do that, until you start mixing all those colors, you don’t know what colors can do.” Dale Chihuly

The book that I am currently using for my journal is a book about seeing and I am really enjoying incorporating some of the text and visual images (tee-hee). I also have to comment on the leaves that are in this layout. The maple leaves are from a tree from my good friend and neighbor. She and I had a lovely walk and I picked the leaves as a memento of the walk. Later that afternoon when my teenaged son got home he gave me the oblong leaves from a tree he walks past on his way home from school. Words cannot express my gratitude for his thoughtfulness. I hope the image will suffice.

My first visit to the Paine Museum in Oshkosh. We also ate lunch at a fabulous restaurant on the river. It was nice to spend time with these friends in a different setting than our usual. I also got a beautiful Chihuly calendar so we can enjoy his art all of next year.

There is a kiddo who comes to my Mommy and Me art class who I am falling in love with. She gave me this drawing. We were using the crayons as a watercolor resist. Even at age 4 her love of art shines. I hope she never looses it.

Parent teacher conferences and my son is just awesome. I wonder if he will read this?

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

So many wonderful vegetables from our farm. I am making shepherd’s pie for the second time this month. I can put so many veggies in it and we all love it. I am painting all the paperwork from my former profession to use in my collages. It is already therapeutic.

Where was I?

Where was I?

While I have not been blogging about my gratitude journal I have had so much to be grateful for! I was with my son and his sister, and my husband. We were in one of the most beautiful places I know, Door County Wisconsin. The window photo was taken from my seat at the breakfast table. There is also the crew with pretty napkins, a pretty napkin, and a couple of photos of the beach.

One of the highlights of my life.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Day One in Door County we went to eat at Julie’s and Marq had his second meal of waffles. Then we took pictures in the big purple chair. Julie’s is very conveniently located just out side of Peninsula State Park. It was a little before the peak fall color, but still so beautiful. (Even the snake).

On Saturday evening we went to the drive in theater and saw Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 2. What a charming movie. So creative and fun. The second feature was not as great and it was pouring rain by that point, but that is part of the adventure of the drive in.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Back home I have been working on creative lettering and paper quilts. It is so much fun to have so many ways to express my gratitude!

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Some days I am grateful for my cats, ice packs, and iPad. I am so glad that the next day I had another acupuncture treatment. I have become a huge fan of acupuncture! I feel like I’m getting my life back.SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

I submitted this photo to one of my favorite blogs http://toemail.wordpress.com/ and also posted it in my self portrait part of my blog. It led to some new traffic here at Lunanista.

The fabulous lettering is from a mission flyer from the Presbyterian church I attend. We also went to our farm (CSA) to pick pumpkins and the next day to a wedding reception for 2 women who have finally been able to get married and assure the future care of their daughter.

Portrait of Care

Portrait of Care

This is the second self-portrait for the photo-collage that I am gradually creating. Here I am taking care of myself and doing some yoga. In the background one of my cats is grooming the other. I was just playing with the timer on my camera and this picture came together so beautifully. I am amazed with what happens when I am open to my creativity. Also, it is strange that my feet look like that. I have never seen them from this perspective before.

Pieces of me

I’m starting a collage/drawing/photographic series that will become a self portrait. I’m just dipping my toe in to start. I will get back to my regularly scheduled gratitude journal entries within the next week.
