This week the theme for journal 52 has been hearts. I have blogged about the 2 art journal layouts I have done for this theme! Today’s post is about the store window display I did for a local fair trade store and community outreach center called Change of Heart. I love synchronicity! Just an FYI, it is really difficult to photograph a store window display. If there are tricks that anyone knows of I would be grateful to get that information.

The woman who runs the store has come to some of my art classes and I have helped them out with some advice on displays inside the store. So, when the team that used to do changing seasonal displays ran out of steam and members she gave me a call. She wanted something that would not need to be changed very often and that could provide more information about what they do. I suggested a 3-dimensional calendar and here it is. The days of the week are old crates that contain objects and signs that provide information about what happens there each day.

On Monday they have free coffee prepared and an area for doing puzzles and socializing that is open from 9-12 and the Fair Trade Store is open during those hours. On Tuesday a few community support groups meet here and their meeting information is provided in old frames inside the crates.

Saturday there is coffee and the Fair Trade store is open from 9-12. In this picture you can even see the old rag rugs that provide the base for all our crates. They are very pleased with the result. This was a very satisfying opportunity.
