sets turtle and geometric

I finished painting 2 more sets of panels for the play. I had to cut a second turtle stencil because it started to tear and get gummed up after the first panel. That is a lot of turtles! This was an interesting project, but it kind of wiped me out. The play opens on Friday!

lots of circles

Loving this circular technique from Cat Hand on YouTube that I found on Laura’s blog Create Art Everyday. I’m having a LOT of fun with this technique. A word to the wise, you don’t need a lot of paint to do a lot of circles. I just went with it as long as the paint held out. This definitely had to be part of a layout in my gratitude art journal as well. I’m looking forward to exploring this technique in different media, too. Wait until you see what I’m doing with all of these! Have a beautiful day!

Change of Heart Window Display

This week the theme for journal 52 has been hearts. I have blogged about the 2 art journal layouts I have done for this theme! Today’s post is about the store window display I did for a local fair trade store and community outreach center called Change of Heart. I love synchronicity! Just an FYI, it is really difficult to photograph a store window display. If there are tricks that anyone knows of I would be grateful to get that information.

window display

The woman who runs the store has come to some of my art classes and I have helped them out with some advice on displays inside the store. So, when the team that used to do changing seasonal displays ran out of steam and members she gave me a call. She wanted something that would not need to be changed very often and that could provide more information about what they do. I suggested a 3-dimensional calendar and here it is. The days of the week are old crates that contain objects and signs that provide information about what happens there each day.

On Monday they have free coffee prepared and an area for doing puzzles and socializing that is open from 9-12 and the Fair Trade Store is open during those hours. On Tuesday a few community support groups meet here and their meeting information is provided in old frames inside the crates.

Saturday there is coffee and the Fair Trade store is open from 9-12. In this picture you can even see the old rag rugs that provide the base for all our crates. They are very pleased with the result. This was a very satisfying opportunity.

Jameson and peaceful hearts 007

This journal page reflects the influence of the Journal 52 prompt and really fun  art journaling video, my work on the sets at our theater, and my time in the swimming pool at our local YMCA. I participate in aquacize classes and swim 5 laps once a week when I can. I am grateful for the activities that I am able to participate in that help keep me healthy. The lights reflecting off the water last Saturday were really beautiful in my super blurry vision. I am so happy with the heart stencil that I made. It needs to be remade on something a lot more substantial, but the shape makes me happy. The word Peace came from my yoga class this morning. It just seemed like the perfect way to complete this page layout. May you be peaceful.

sets and hearts 009

The Journal 52 prompt for this week is “The Heart Knows.” I frequently use different papers to represent people and events that I am grateful for and this journal entry is no exception. The music paper if from my Dad’s old hymnal I use that and the old fashioned magazine illustrations (in the heart in the lower right hand corner) to represent time with my Mom. My Dad died almost 20 years ago and my Mom’s health isn’t great. We had a really lovely day together the other day so here she is in my hearts. The red shoe is always Shannon and we had fun together another day. So many wonderful people in my life. Who are you grateful for today?

days of the week and ornamentation 004

I love it when the book I’m altering offers a prompt for journaling. As you can see I took the title of “Ornamentation” to heart. This page also includes some impressions from other things I’m working on. The negative impression of the “e” is from the store window display I’m working on. That is what also led to the black circles on the pages. I was also inspired by the circle studies that Laura made over at CreateArtEveryday. The flower on the watercolor paper was inspired by Claudia McGill to make some small paintings on acrylic board and use the leftover paint to make some postcards. This flower is from the leftover watercolor paper that I cut to post card size. I actually went with 4×6 so they could fit in small picture frames, if desired. None of them are done yet, but here they are after the paint layer. I really had fun with the postcard from the #twitterartexhibit too and that gave me a jump start on small pieces.

So much inspiration to be grateful for! What inspired you today?
