One of the things I like about blogging is the inspiration that plays out in unexpected ways. Here is an art journal entry that I am very happy with about the beauty of fall and letting go.

It was going in a different direction when I came across Amy’s Seeing Differently post. That led me to Robin’s Fine Art blog where she came up with the Seeing Differently October challenge. Because I encountered this challenge on the penultimate day, I took my own interpretation. Instead of photographing 15 different ordinary things over the course of the month I photographed 4 leaves that I had picked up this morning on 15 different ordinary things. My 2 favorites are the cats and they really aren’t just ordinary, of course.

I tried to use the same layout for all of the pictures, but Bonhomie was too interested for it to remain. Winston was more relaxed with the photo shoot.

And here are the leaves on a few tables, the piano, a chair, my meditation cushion and yoga mat, the bathroom floor and an orange towel, a black & white photocopy of the leaves and the leaves on top of that copy – cool shadow effect.

The final of my 15 ordinary objects was the dictionary page with the definition of Leaf on it and the 4 pretty leaves that I found on a walk with my husband this morning. I really love to see what pops out in the different photos and how the colors and textures work together. I hope something comes together for you in such an exciting way on Halloween!

This flower is from the Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort in Ogunquit, Maine. There is a public path that goes through their gardens to get to the waterfront. The gardens were lovely. You have already seen some pictures from there. I used them as the background for some quotes in a previous post.

This mandala was used to teach a friend how to draw mandalas and how to use Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. I have been kind of obsessed with little circles in my mandalas as you will see when I finish 19 of 100. I hope you have a beautiful day.

Cemetery, dahlia, Flower of the Day, Maine

I have a few more pictures of our trip to Maine and then I will move on to something new. I took over 200 photos in the 3 days we were there and I totally fell in love with the place.

I have not yet run out of photos from our trip to Maine last weekend. I hope you are enjoying them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

This is the Portland Head Lighthouse. There was a Pleine aire painting workshop going on there and that is something I’m adding to my bucket list. It is so beautiful. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Gratitude and a Grid

This journal page layout is kind of a mish-mash of the last week. It includes bits of maps from our trip to Maine, my scratch sheet from my Mandalafest 2016 coloring page, a couple of quotes that came up during the week, and a phrase from a motivational poster I made for my younger son. I added the blue and green grid because I’m loving grids these days! It was painted with my Pelikan watercolors.

The quotes aren’t particularly legible so I combined them with some photos from Ogunquit.

This door was from a church that seemed to be under reconstruction. We discovered it as we got lost going from Albany into Vermont. Fortunately we had to turn around and go back so I was able to check this out a little bit. If you love door photos like I do, check out out Norm 2.0. This week he features photos from a really lovely Abbey in Quebec.

portland-red-door

I ran out of steam looking for interesting doors in Portland. I kind of overdid it this weekend and my migraines got pretty bad again. But I was happy to find this lovely red door to share with you. We definitely want to go back to Portland, Maine to explore more!
