inI like worn out old doors. Here are some barn doors that I found in my exploration of the Great Swamp of New Jersey. I bet you didn’t know we had a great swamp. It is prettier than the name suggests. I will definitely be going back.

inI’m getting trigger point injections every Thursday morning for 6 weeks to get ready for surgery. The doctor is in NYC during most of the week but she comes to Hoboken on Thursday so we get to avoid the tunnel traffic and more expensive parking on the other side of the Hudson River. Also, Hoboken is a very charming town. We haven’t explored a lot, but there are 2 interesting churches right by the office. This is one of them.

inThe other evening my husband and I were out gathering photos at the arboretum and he wanted to show me Acorn Hall. It wasn’t open, but we had a walk around the grounds. The weather was kind of stormy and the sky was gorgeous.
It is a very attractive building and I hope to see the inside soon. I’m guessing there are some lovely doors inside, too.

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. It is hosted by Norm 2.0.
I hope you enjoy my Thursday Doors post from the Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. We drove past this church on the way to the park and I had to come get some door pictures. It is really a lovely old building.
These are photos from the shady side of the Cathedral. This is the side I approached the church on and it was a lovely introduction to the architecture. I loved the lines of the side door and its archways.
Then I came around to the front and the amount of detail blew me away. You may have noticed that I like fancy things. Especially when flowers are part of it and these cherry trees were the icing on this fancy scene.
Here are some close up shots of the 3 sets of front doors and a few of the front as a whole. It was such a beautiful day to be taking photographs!
The sunny side of the church had some more cherry trees and this lovely “basement” door. It was tucked away from street view, but I thought it was beautiful, too.

Here is a photo that seems just right for Easter Sunday. This is the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ as seen from Branch Brook Park. More pictures of this coming on Thursday!
There were some trees at the Cherry Blossom Festival with really gorgeous shapes that weren’t full of blooms, but I loved them nonetheless. I hope you do too. These are my entry into Becca’s Sunday Trees Challenge.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

inThis is my belated Thursday Doors post. This week I’m featuring the United Methodist Church. It is on the Green in the center of town and it has lovely doors and windows all encased in gorgeous stonework.
You can see a little bit of the Green and the traffic in the reflection.

Here is the next stop on our tour of Morristown’s interesting doors. This is the Parish House of the Presbyterian Church and it is undergoing some construction so I only have a few pictures. In a few more weeks we will have the doors of the Sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church.

I have a whole bunch of lovely door photos to share with you all! Thanks Norm 2.0 for providing us with a venue and community of fellow door lovers. I have been admiring quite a few of these doors since we were first looking for a house in this neck of the woods. I’m happy to report that I got some mid-day pictures and hope to go back for some golden hour photos in different seasons.
I’m going to start with one of my favorite places in Morristown, the library. The main entrance is a little mundane, but it has some wonderful alternatives.
It doesn’t look like much from the street, but there is a vestibule before the door that has some interesting views.
Here is a view of the whole building. The older part of the building dates back to Dec. 13, 1917. It has an interesting history if you want to know more click here.
The sunny side of the building has a really wonderful door. I took some closeups so you can really appreciate it.
The quote on the door is from Wordsworth:
“Dreams, books, are each a world; and books, we know,
Are a substantial world, both pure and good:
Round these, with tendrils strong as flesh and blood,
Our pastime and our happiness will grow.”
― William Wordsworth

inMany of the houses along the Jersey Shore are pretty spectacular. I managed to get photos of the front doors of 2 that I particularly liked.
Here is the surprise. On our way home we came across this Russian Orthodox Church right as the sunlight was hitting it so beautifully. The front door is simple, but beautifully framed, but so is the whole building.
